FAQs

Is a mild facial cleanser good for acne-prone skin?
Why do I sometimes get more pimples from a cleanser that's too strong?

More pimples after cleansing are often a sign that your cleanser is too aggressive. A cleanser that is too strong can damage the skin barrier and worsen acne.

When you experience more pimples after using a new facial cleanser, it often indicates a disruption of the skin barrier. Many aggressive cleansers contain strong foaming agents, fragrances, or drying ingredients.

These substances not only remove dirt but also the natural oils that protect your skin. As a result, your skin can become more sensitive and produce extra sebum. This excess sebum can clog pores and cause new pimples.

A gentle cleanser for acne works differently. It cleanses thoroughly but respects the skin barrier and helps your skin regain its balance.

How often should I cleanse my face if I have acne?

For pimples and acne, cleansing twice a day is sufficient. This removes dirt and sebum without over-stressing your skin.

With acne, consistency is more important than over-cleansing. By cleansing your face morning and evening with a mild facial cleanser, you remove excess sebum, dirt, and dead skin cells.

Cleansing more than twice a day can disrupt the skin barrier and worsen acne. A gentle cleanser helps keep your skin clean without dryness or irritation.

Regularity and gentleness are crucial for acne-prone skin.

Does a gentle cleanser help with blackheads?

Yes, a mild facial cleanser can help reduce blackheads by gently removing excess sebum, dirt, and dead skin cells, without damaging the skin barrier.

Blackheads form when sebum and dead skin cells accumulate in the pores. When these pores remain open on the skin's surface, the sebum oxidizes, creating blackheads. A good facial cleanser for acne helps to control this process.

A mild facial cleanser daily removes excess sebum and impurities without drying out the skin. This is important because a cleanser that is too aggressive can disrupt the skin barrier. When the skin barrier is weakened, the skin often starts producing extra sebum, which causes pores to clog more quickly and blackheads to reappear.

By gently cleansing your skin twice a day, pores remain clean and you support the natural balance of your acne-prone skin. This reduces the chance of new blackheads and allows active acne products to work more effectively.

Important to know: a cleanser alone does not completely remove existing blackheads, but it is an essential first step in any routine for acne-prone skin. Consistent and gentle cleansing makes a difference in the long term.

Which cleanser works best for hormonal acne?

For hormonal acne, a gentle cleanser that soothes your skin and doesn't clog your pores works best.

Hormonal acne is often more sensitive and harder to control. Your skin can react more quickly, especially around the jawline and chin. That's why it's important that your cleanser doesn't irritate your skin further.

Opt for a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser. That simply means it doesn't contain ingredients that can clog your pores. After cleansing, your skin should feel calm and smooth, not tight or dry.

A good cleanser for hormonal acne helps keep your skin stable. This allows it to respond better to subsequent products, without constantly having to recover from aggressive cleansing.
